Pressureless sintering of zirconium diboride with carbon and boron carbide nanopowder

چکیده

Zirconium diboride ceramics with and without carbon boron carbide nanopowder additives were prepared by ball milling ZrB2 grinding media pressureless sintering. Additions of up to 1 wt% nano-B4C 0.5 C made the powder. The materials then sintered between 1800 2300 °C for 90 360 min in an Ar/10H2 atmosphere. After sintering at 2200 min, densities ranged from 88.3 90.7% 0–1.0% addition. Carbon additions 0 1.0 resulted ranging 90.9 91.9% after 2100 min. Grain size 16.6 21.7 μm content increasing wt%, °C. For C, a decrease grain 25.4 18.5 μm. achieved this study lower than previous studies that used WC-6Co media, presumably due absence WC Co can also act as aids.

Reactive Spark Plasma Sintering and Mechanical Properties of Zirconium Diboride–Titanium Diboride Ultrahigh Temperature Ceramic Solid Solutions

Ultrahigh temperature ceramics (UHTCs) such as diborides of zirconium, hafnium tantalum and their composites are considered to be the candidate materials for thermal protection systems of hypersonic vehicles due to their exceptional combination of physical, chemical and mechanical properties. A composite of ZrB2-TiB2 is expected to have better properties. In this study, an attempt has been made...

Spark Plasma Sintering of Commercial Zirconium Carbide Powders: Densification Behavior and Mechanical Properties

Commercial zirconium carbide (ZrC) powder is consolidated by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS). Processing temperatures range from 1650 to 2100 °C. Specimens with various density levels are obtained when performing single-die SPS at different temperatures. Besides the single-die tooling setup, a double-die tooling setup is employed to largely increase the actual applied pressure to achieve higher de...

PRESSURELESS SINTERING OF B4C-NANOTiB2 NANOCOMPOSITE BY ADDITION OF Fe AND Ni AS SINTERING AIDS

B4C and its composites with TiB2 as second phase continues to be extensively used as the preferred ceramic material in military applications as armor systems for absorbing and dissipating kinetic energy from high velocity projectiles. It also exhibits a high melting point (2427 °C), and high neutron absorption cross section. Pressureless sintering of the B 4C-nanoTiB2 nanocomposite using small ...

Sintering of cubic boron nitride under high pressures and temperatures in the presence of boron carbide as the binding material

Sintering of cubic boron nitride (cBN) was carried out by subjecting fine powders of cBN to high pressures and temperatures (P = 50-60 kb, T = 1200-1500°C ) in the presence of boron carbide as the main binding material together with a small amount of aluminium nitride. The composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, FTIR, Raman Spectroscopy and microhardnes...

Modelling of an Artificial Neural Network for Electrical Discharge Machining of Hot Pressed Zirconium Diboride-silicon Carbide Composites

Modelling is carried out to map the relationship between the input process parameters and the output response, considered in the machining process. To represent real-world systems of considerable complexity, an artificial neural network (ANN) model is often utilized to replace the mathematical approximation of the relationship. This paper explains the methodological procedure and the outcome of...
